How To Reset Honda Odyssey Indicator

Like many Honda Odyssey owners, you are probably enjoying your vehicle. There are times, however, when the Odyssey may need a little tweaking, including when an indicator shows.

To reset the Honda Odyssey indicator, turn the ignition to the “On” position without starting the engine. Press the “Select/Reset” button located on the instrument panel until the oil life indicator appears. Hold the button for about 10 seconds until the indicator blinks, then press it again for about 5 seconds until it resets.

Remember, resetting the indicator doesn’t replace actual maintenance. It’s crucial to perform or schedule the necessary service to keep your Odyssey in top condition. The reset merely clears the indicator until the next scheduled maintenance interval. Always follow your vehicle’s maintenance schedule to ensure longevity and optimal performance of your Honda Odyssey.

Of course, there are many different indicators on a Honda Odyssey and not all of them are going to turn out in the same way. There may also be times in which multiple indicators show and you want to reset them all at one time. That may also be possible.

Before we dive into the specifics of many of the different indicators in a Honda Odyssey, it’s a good idea to discuss some ways to clear the system and start from factory default. This is perhaps the most convenient way to do multiple resets and to ensure that the indicator stays out.

It is also good to mention that the indicators will typically show up for a reason. Simply clearing the light and turning off the indicator is not going to remove the issue that caused the light to come on in the first place. Make sure that you fix the issue first.

Doing a Master Reset

If you want to reset many indicators in your Honda Odyssey at one time, this can be done through a master reset. Essentially, you are resetting the ECU, or the primary computer chip in your Honda.

This is not something that should be done without giving it some thought first. After all, you are wiping out the entire history of the Odyssey, including error codes that can be used to diagnose problems.

In addition, the ECU is responsible for many of the functioning aspects of your Honda Odyssey. It may make adjustments to everything from the fuel mixture to the idle speed. When you reset the ECU, the settings will take some time to reestablish.

Fortunately, the process itself is not difficult, and getting your settings back up to speed is something that happens almost automatically.

To reset your ECU, you first need to disconnect power from the vehicle. This is done by removing the negative cable from the terminal on the battery. Make sure you have it in a place where it is not going to come in contact with the terminal accidentally.

Next, go to the fuse box and look at the diagram. You should see a master fuse for the ECU. Remove that fuse.

As soon as you remove the fuse, you have essentially reset the ECU. It is still good to ensure that all of the settings are removed, so for this, you need to eliminate any stored energy in the vehicle.

With the negative cable removed from the battery and the ECU fuse removed from the fuse box, get in your vehicle and turn the key to the on position. Turn on your headlights and hold your foot on the brake pedal for a few minutes. If there is any energy left in the vehicle, doing so will remove it.

You can now reinsert the fuse into the fuse box. This will allow power to get to the ECU again. Reconnect the negative battery cable to the terminal on the battery. The ECU is now fully reset.

Since the ECU and all history are reset, the warning lights should be disabled on the Honda Odyssey dashboard as well. If they do come back shortly after this process, there is either a short in the system or some repairs are necessary.

Start the car and allow it to idle for 10 minutes. Drive the vehicle for 10 miles. This will help to reestablish any of the settings that were disabled.

In addition, if you have any error messages that are used for diagnostic purposes, they will also begin to accumulate at this point. The history may be lost, but you start building a new history right away.

Let’s take a look at some of the specific indicator lights that may be a problem in a Honda Odyssey. You will see that each of them can be disabled individually with its own method.

How To Reset Honda Odyssey Specific Functions

Most Honda Odyssey owners are surprised when different indicators show up on the dashboard. You don’t see them until they are lit and then you want them removed.

The easiest way to remove any specific Honda Odyssey function lights is to navigate to the settings for that light and then hold the reset button. This reset button is either found on the settings menu or you may need to use the trip odometer reset button on the dashboard.

Before you reset any specific function lights, it’s important to ensure that the issue has been corrected. This is something that should not be downplayed, because if you remove the warning, you may not recognize that the problem still needs fixing.

In some cases, the light may come back on again but in most cases, it is just going to remain off and the warning will be gone. Fix the problem and then fix the indicator.

You could also reset many indicator lights by removing the negative battery terminal for a few minutes and then re-connecting it.

How To Reset Honda Odyssey TPMS/Tire Pressure

One of the conveniences of owning a Honda Odyssey is having an automatic system check the tire pressure. This is known as the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). How can you reset it?

To reset the tire pressure monitoring system in your Honda Odyssey, you first need to fill all tires, including the spare, to the appropriate level. You will then navigate to the settings menu, select Vehicle, and select the calibration of the TPMS. After choosing calibrate, the light will go out.

In some Honda Odysseys, there is a button on the dashboard dedicated to monitoring the tire pressure. It is often found on the left side of the steering wheel. If you have the button, you will hold the button while the vehicle is in park until it flashes twice.

When you reset the TPMS, you are essentially telling your Honda Odyssey that the current pressure in the tires is the appropriate pressure. Make sure that you have the tires filled properly before you turn off the light.

The oil light in our Honda Odyssey is a very convenient warning system. It lets us know when it is time to change the oil, but how can you turn off the warning?

The easiest way to disable the Honda Odyssey oil light and reset the settings to 100% is to navigate to the oil settings menu by pressing the trip odometer reset button on the dashboard. Continue to press the button until you are on the proper screen and then hold the button in for a few seconds until the numbers reset.

Be aware that once you reset your Honda Odyssey oil light and it turns off, you can’t reset the numbers. You will have to change the oil and then reset the numbers to 100% again.

This can be problematic because we live busy lives and we may forget that the oil needs changed. Allow the warning light for your Honda Odyssey oil change feature to remind you that you need to have this necessary service done.

Have you determined why the check engine light was on in your Honda Odyssey? It’s important to know, because some serious issues may be associated with it.

Some of the more dangerous issues associated with a check engine light include defective spark plugs, a faulty head gasket, or a damaged fuel injection system. If these issues are not fixed, you could quickly be left along the side of the road with a broken vehicle.

Look into why the check engine light is on and then make the repairs before resetting the check engine light.

How To Reset Honda Odyssey ECU

The ECU is the primary computer in your Honda Odyssey. How can you reset it?

To reset the ECU, you should first disconnect the negative battery cable and then locate the fuse for the ECU in the fuse box. Remove the fuse and wait a few minutes. You can then reinsert the fuse and reconnect the negative terminal.

This process will fully reset the ECU. When it is finished, you should turn the car on and allow it to idle for 10 minutes to begin to re-establish some of the settings.

Resetting the ECU is not something that should be done without serious thought. It can be problematic because you are removing the error codes that may be used for troubleshooting.

Your vehicle will begin to reestablish new error codes according to the problems, but the history will be gone.

If you reset the ECU and are still having problems, it may be that some repairs are necessary. You can ask a qualified mechanic to help you with those issues.

How To Reset Honda Odyssey Maintenance Minder

The maintenance minder in the Honda Odyssey is a very convenient feature. It lets us know when something needs to be done but how can you tell it to stop reminding you?

Resetting the Honda Odyssey maintenance minder can be done easily from the settings menu. After entering into Vehicle Settings, scroll until you reach Maintenance Info. After you enter the maintenance info section, press the reset option and you will be prompted to make sure you want to reset everything. Select yes and the maintenance minder will disappear.

Although it is easy to reset the maintenance minder in a Honda Odyssey, it is something that should be done after you give it some serious thought. After all, if you erase the reminder, you will no longer be reminded that the work needs to be done.

The maintenance minder also works on a system that is either timed or has to do with the number of miles driven. Once you reset it once, you will have to go through the number of miles or time until it shows up again. Resetting your maintenance minder will not get rid of it permanently.

Disconnect the battery, unplug the fuse associated with the ECU and wait two minutes before reconnecting.

The ABS light should be off when you reconnect the fuse and battery. If it still appears after driving the vehicle, it likely means that there is a problem with the brakes or with the sensor.

This is not something that should be taken lightly. Our breaks need to be working properly or it could be a matter of our life or the life of someone else.

When you reset the ECU, make sure you go in and top off the brake fluid. Use the appropriate DOT3 brake fluid for your Honda Odyssey. Check the user manual if you have any questions.

This will remove any energy that is stored in the Honda. After a few minutes, turn off the headlights and reconnect the battery. The light should no longer be on.

If you reset the battery light and it continues to show up again, it is an indication there is a more serious problem. This is something that should be corrected rather than ignored.

Ignoring a battery light will likely leave you sitting along the side of the road at some point. It probably means that the battery either has a bad cell or that the alternator is no longer putting out enough power.
